◆本CD解説より(大意)◆
12世紀から14世紀初頭にかけての英語の歌のレパートリーはおどろくほど少ない。多くの曲は失われてしまっていて、現存するのは断片的なものも含めて20曲ほどしかない。同時代のトゥルバドールやトルヴェールたちによるフランス語の歌を集成した写本にみられる豊富さとは対照的で、それというのもチョーサー以前のイギリスでは教養ある人士にとって文学といえばフランス文学で、書き言葉といえばフランス語だったからだ。貴族のあいだではアングロ・ノルマン語の歌が流行っていて、英語のその種のものは、英語がふつうに使われていたフランシスコ会のような宗教的・学問的な場で、聖者伝や宗教的著作の中にだったり、教皇の勅書の裏側にだったりに書きとめられて残されたのだった。

ブックレット(全32頁)に解説「"Worldes blis" - English songs of the Middle Ages」(Benjamin Bagby)と「Notes on instrumental music」(Margriet Tindemans)のそれぞれ英語原文と独・仏・伊訳、歌詞(原文、現代英語訳と独訳)。
セクエンツィア「中世の英語の歌」。日本盤は『中世イギリスの歌』という邦題になっていますが、「イギリスの」というよりは、「英語(中英語 Middle English)の」というニュアンスが強いです。
オリジナル・リリースは1988年。本CDには録音データその他のクレジットが抜けていますが、「discogs」サイト掲載のカセット版の記載によって補うと:
