◆Renaud Machartによる解説より（大意）◆
アポリネールの詩による「モンパルナス」は、楽譜3頁分の短い曲で、全く自然に流れ出たように聞こえるが、「これを作曲するのに4年かかった。1941年にノワゼで「Un poète lyrique d'Allemagne」という一行から取りかかって、1943年に「Vous connaissez de son pavé」以下の終結部ができて、1944年にパリで最初の2行分ができた。殺し文句「Donnez-moi pour toujours une chambre à la semaine」の部分は1943年にノワゼでひらめいた。それらの断片はしばらく寝かせておいて、仕上げをしたのはパリで、1945年の2月だった」。
