サード・イアー・バンド『エレメンツ 1970～71』。
四大元素（Elements）をテーマにしたセカンド・アルバム『天と地、火と水（Third Ear Band）』（CD1）、ドイツのTV映画『アベラールとエロイーズ（Abelard and Heloise）』のサウンドトラック（CD2）、お蔵入りになったサード・アルバム『The Dragon Wakes』のセッション音源（CD3）を中心に、別テイク＆スタジオ・ライヴ音源をボーナス・トラックとして収録しています。
セカンド『Third Ear Band』はグレン・スウィーニー（ハンド・ドラム）、ポール・ミンス（オーボエ）、アーシュラ・スミス（チェロ）、リチャード・コフ（ヴァイオリン）のメンバーによって1970年4月にアビー・ロード・スタジオでレコーディングが開始され、ドラッグ漬け状態のうちに完成したアルバムは同年6月にリリースされました（CD1 #1～4）。CD1 #5、6はそのレコーディング・セッションのアウトテイク。リリース数週間後にBBCの「Sound of the Seventies」のラジオ放送用にMaida Valeスタジオで録音されたのがCD1 #7～9。
同年7月2～3日、ドイツ・ツアーの合間にミュンヘンでテレビ映画「アベラールとエロイーズ」（ウィーン幻想派の画家エルンスト・フックスも一枚噛んでいたようです）のサウンドトラックとして録音されたのがCD2 #1～6で、1997年にイタリアのSonic Booksからリリースされた本＋CD『Necromancers of the Drifting West』にミンス所有のコピー・テープ音源が収録され、それが独立した形で1999年にBlueprintから、2014年にVoiceprintから『Abelard and Heloise』としてリリースされていますが、本CD収録ヴァージョンはその後発見されたオリジナル・マスター・テープによるリマスターです。
同年9月（『Macbeth』ブックレット解説では8月）にスミスとコフが脱退、スミスの代わりにポール・バックマスター（Paul Buckmaster）がチェロ＆ベースで再加入、デニム・ブリッジス（Denim Bridges）がギターで加わっての11月11日アビー・ロード・スタジオでのセッションがCD2 #7～9、年が明けて1971年1月17日にBBCラジオ「John Peel's Sunday Concert」のために録音されたのがCD 3 #4～6。同年2月、マイルス・デイヴィス『ビッチェズ・ブリュー』の影響下にレコーディングが開始された電化＆ヴォーカル入りアルバム『The Dragon Wakes』は、結局お蔵入りになってしまいますが、CD3 #1～3がそのセッションからの音源です。なお本CDにはセカンド『Third Ear Band』以外はメンバーのクレジットが明記されていないですが、CD2 #7以降はヴァイオリンでサイモン・ハウス（Simon House）か、一時復帰したコフが加わっているようです。
