「"Accordion and Voice was the first of my recordings as a soloist. I was living in an A-frame house in a meadow just below Mount Tremper at Zen Mountain Center. I had a wonderful view of the graceful saddle mtn. top. When away on a performance trip I would imagine the mountain as I played Rattlesnake Mountain. I followed the feelings and sensations of my many experiences of the mountain - the changing colors of the season, the breezes and winds blowing through the grasses and trees."

アメリカの現代音楽作曲家・アコーディオン奏者ポーリン・オリヴェロスのソロ・パフォーマンス集『アコーディオン＆ヴォイス』。オリジナルLPはLovely Musicより1982年にリリースされました。
「自分の中の、そして自分をとりまくあらゆる音に、つねに耳を傾けること」（listening at all times to all sounds inside of me and around me.）。1956年、24歳のときに母親からテープ・レコーダーをプレゼントされたオリヴェロスは、テープに録音された、普段耳にしているはずなのに気づかずにいた音の多様性にめざめ、「deep listening」（深く耳を傾けること）を提唱するようになります。
音による瞑想（a Sonic Meditation）である#1「Horse Sings From Cloud」（馬は雲から歌う）は、1977年5月にパリのラジオで初演されました。タイトルは「一頭の馬が雲の中で歌っているようだった。馬はどうやってそんなところにいったのだろうと思っていると、数羽の鳥がくちばしに毛布をくわえて降りてきて馬を雲まで連れていった」という夢に由来しています。「一つの音（a tone or sound）を、別の音を出したいという欲求がすっかりなくなるまで（until there is no longer any desire to change it）ずっと出し続けること。そして変化への欲求がなくなったら、新しい音を出すこと」という指示に従って演奏されます。「「Horse Sings From Cloud」によって私は一つの音の深みに耳をすますこと、忍耐することの重要性を学んだ。動きや旋律、ハーモニーといった音楽的衝動に身を任すよりも、一つの音が空間と時間のなかで成長してゆく音の精妙さを敏感に聴き取りたかった。音は身体や心、楽器や演奏空間にとどまり、共鳴する（Horse Sings From Cloud taught me to listen to the depth of a tone and to have patience. Rather than initiating musical impulses of motion, melody and harmony I wanted to heart the subtlety of a tone taking space and time to develop. The tones linger and resonate in the body, mind, instrument and performance space.）」（オリヴェロス）。
#2「Rattlesnake Mountain」（がらがら蛇の山）は、キャッツキル山脈のマウント・トレンパーのアメリカ先住民による呼称で、そのなだらかな山容と、麓の森や草原を吹き渡る風によって引き起こされたオリヴェロスの感情や感覚（the feelings and sensations）が音響化されています。1982年5月作曲。
