◆本CD解説（Wulf Arlt）より（大意）◆
思想と行動の両面において革新の時代であった12世紀初頭に、フランスのロマネスク教会を新しい音響であふれさせた、新しいポリフォニーと新しい歌曲様式の、最も驚くべき特徴はその多様さであった。その音楽的構造の豊かさは今でも失われていない。
それまでのポリフォニーは、確立された規則に従った垂直的拡張であったが、それに典礼のための新しい詩が導入されるようになると、声の結合やハーモニーの活用、楽譜に書かれることによる形式的組織化の可能性が開かれた。
新しいポリフォニーはまず南フランスに起ったが、新しい歌の様式は北フランスからも来た。このレコーディングの主眼は、11世紀から12世紀にかけての時期をヨーロッパ音楽史上の重要なターニングポイントにしたそれらの革新の多様さをリスナーに紹介することにある。
