◆本CDについて◆　

元ヘンリー・カウのジョン・グリーヴスのソロ第5作。本作と同時にバンド形態でのソロ作『The Caretaker』（Blueprint BP347CD）がリリースされています。
ジャケットからしてアグレッシヴな『The Caretaker』とは対照的に、本作は1930～1950年代のスタンダード曲を中心にカバーした回顧的なラヴ・ソング／トーチ・ソング集で、ピアノとギターによる伴奏も定石通りでアヴァンギャルド要素は一切ないです。グリーヴスは父親のダンス・バンドのベーシストとして音楽活動を始めたので、いわば原点に戻って、あまりうまくはない嗄れ声でしかし楽しそうに歌っています。

#1「I Wish You Love」はシャルル・トレネの1940年代のシャンソン「残されし恋には」の英語ヴァージョンで、ここでは前半を英語、後半をフランス語で歌っています。
#6、13は1956年のミュージカル「マイ・フェア・レディー」より。#15は1959年のミュージカル「サウンド・オブ・ミュージック」より。#2、4も1930年代のミュージカル・ナンバー。#12は1939年のミュージカル映画「オズの魔法使い」より。
#11は1902年のドイツのオペレッタ曲をジョニー・マーサーが1952年に改作したもの。
#17はビング・クロスビーもカバーしている、イェール大学「ウィッフェンプーフス合唱団」の締め曲（一部抜粋）。
ちなみに#7はダグマー・クラウゼもシティー・プリーチャーズでカバーしていました。
