「Finding no trace of the original 1/4 inch masters, but retrieving the multi-tracks more or less intact, we had the choice between re-mastering from vinyl or re-mixing the whole thing. I took the second option because, despite the wondrous technology now available, I didn't have a lot of faith in the first. The temptation was obviously to tart it up, but working on the silk purse/sow's ear principle, I tried to steer as close to the original as possible. I think it's O.K., especially as Emmanuel has still not heard the original - a deliberate decision allowing full scope to his intelligence and skill. I couldn't resist re-doing a couple of vocals and we added a soprano sax on *Swelling Valley*. 」

ブックレット（三つ折り）にトラックリスト＆クレジット、John GreavesによるCDライナーノーツ、写真図版（モノクロ＆カラー）。
ジョン・グリーヴスのソロ第2作（1984年）。CD化にあたってヴォーカルの一部を再録音し#6に新たにソプラノ・サックスを加えるなど手直しされているようです。前作『Accident』（1982年）はシンセ・ポップでしたが、本作はピアノ主体の穏やかな曲もあるものの、全体的にロック寄りになっていて、特に#8や、#5「Bad Alchemy」のロック・ヴァージョンでの暴れっぷりなどは同時期のピーター・ハミルを彷彿とさせます。
タイトルの「Parrot Fashions」は「おうむ返し」「猿まね」で、オウムのおしゃべりのようにインプットされたものをそのままアウトプットすることですが、10代で父親のダンスバンドでポピュラー音楽を演奏することから始めて、誘われて入ったヘンリー・カウでアヴァンギャルド・ロックを、ナショナル・ヘルスでジャズ・ロックを演奏し、ソロになってからは当時流行のシンセ・ポップを、といったグリーヴス自身の歩みへの言及かもしれないです。
全9曲のうち6曲がピーター・ブレグヴァド（作詞）との共作で、#2はブレグヴァドのソロ第1作『The Naked Shakespeare』（1983年）収録曲、#1はブレグヴァドのソロ第2作『Knights Like This』（1985年）収録曲、#5はブレグヴァドが在籍していたスラップ・ハッピーとグリーヴスが在籍していたヘンリー・カウのジョイント作『Desperate Straights』（1975年）収録曲です。#6はのちにブレグヴァドとのバンド、ザ・ロッジの『Smell of a Friend』（1988年）で再録音（1977年にブレグヴァド＆グリーヴスと連名で『キュー・ローン』をリリースしたリサ・ハーマンがリード・ヴォーカルをとっています）。その#6と#4は1995年の『Songs』でも再録音されています（リード・ヴォーカルは「S'Ange」ことソプラノ歌手スーザン・ベリング）。
