◆本CD解説より（大意）◆
『Thys Yool』（このクリスマスに）は四つのパートから成る中世音楽のプログラムで、クリスマス物語を集約する四つのイメージが集められている。地上的な存在である人間の、時にメランコリックな姿から始まり（「Winter and Wassail」冬と酒宴）、キリストの降誕を経て（「A Child is Born」）、しばしば宮廷的恋愛の情熱的な言語で表現される聖母崇拝（キリスト教と異教的民間信仰が混淆したもの）へ。クリスマスという出来事がもたらした人間観の変化は、「Mary's Son, Goodwill on Earth」で喚起され、そして復活（Rebirh）への期待へ。
このような構成になったのは、このレコードに収録されている素材の多様性によるもので、イギリスの歌、祝歌（carol、もとは世俗的な踊りのための歌であった）、酒宴の歌、スペインの歌など。こうした多様性は地域やジャンルだけでなく時代についても言えて、対象となった時期はほぼ350年に渡っている。
