◆Christopher Pageによる解説より（大意）◆
本作は、『The Medieval Romantics（中世のロマン主義者たち）』（1991年）、『Lancaster and Valois（ランカスター王家とヴァロワ王家）』（1992年）に続く、フランスのアルス・ノヴァのシャンソンとモテットを扱った三部作の完結編である。本作のタイトル『The Study of Love（愛の研究）』は三部作全体に当てはまるもので、14世紀フランスの詩人や作曲家は、実際に愛を研究の対象とみなしていた。書斎（study）の聖ヒエロニムスを描いた本作のジャケット画像は、愛についての知識のすべてを書物から学んだ隠遁者としての、当時の物語詩の作者たちを髣髴とさせる。
ギヨーム・ド・マショーの作品は三部作すべてにフィーチャーされている。
イギリスの「オールド・ホール写本」によってのみ作品が知られているピカール（Pycard）は明かにフランス人で、その「グローリア」のリズムの複雑さはフランスのアルス・スブティリオルを思わせるものだ。

diskunion.netで380円（セール期間だったので369円）で売られていたので購入してみました。ゴシック・ヴォイセズ（ゴシック・ヴォイス）の演奏（歌唱）は実に手堅いです。
