2枚組用ジュエルケース（10mm厚／透明トレイ）。ブックレット（全16頁）にAnthony Rooleyによる覚書（2009）、トラックリスト＆クレジット、Anthony Rooleyによる解説（2009）、Richard Luckettによる解説（LPより再録）、歌詞（英語）、オリジナルLPジャケット図版（カラー）。

アンソニー・ルーリー指揮コンソート・オブ・ミュージックによるジョン・ウォード「英語によるマドリガル集第1巻～3、4、5、6声のための」全曲＆ヴァイオル（ヴィオラ・ダ・ガンバ）のための4つの幻想曲（ファンタジア）。
1981年にリリースされた2枚組LP『John Ward: Madrigals 1613』の初CD化（2010年）です。
タイトルには「第1巻」とありますが「第2巻」は未刊です。
本作は1970年代の古楽ブーム（early music movement）において見過ごされてきた英語によるマドリガルの録音に全面的に取り組むため、アンソニー・ルーリー＆エマ・カークビーが1979年に結成したマドリガル・アンサンブルによる最初のプロジェクトで、それぞれの曲を最もふさわしい声で録音するべく総勢12人の歌手が動員されています。最初と最後の曲のみ声＋ヴァイオルによる演奏で、他はアカペラ。区切りの部分にヴァイオル合奏曲が挿入されています。
「Eloquence」シリーズは廉価盤ですが、コンソート・オブ・ミュージックの隠れた名盤の初CD化も多く含まれ、ブックレットも充実していて（新規ライナー＆原盤解説、歌詞）よいです。しかし今は廃盤で高価盤になってしまっているので残念です。
